PS Seasoning, a leading blender of specialty seasonings, and Pro Smoker, the leading manufacturer of premium smokehouses, are proud to support the recent expansion of the UW Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
The UW–Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) is celebrating the recent completion of the new Meat Science and Animal Biologics Discovery (MSABD) building on November 6 at 12 pm CST. The virtual celebration will take place at msabd.cals.wisc.edu and on social media using the hashtag #MeatOurNewBuilding.
The building will serve as a home for the program to develop meat industry leaders, discover new uses for animal components, provide expertise for education in foods derived from animals, and improve the safety and nutritional quality of animal-based proteins.
"We're proud to support the growth of this incredible program," says Joe Hanni, President of PS Seasoning. “Wisconsin is leading the charge in meat processing innovation and the MSABD program is pivotal to that,” Hanni continued. “This expansion will give students the resources they need, as well as develop future leaders in the meat industry” PS Seasoning's resident Master Meat Crafter, Mark Hanni is a graduate of the UW Meat Sciences program.
The new building will provide state-of-the-art teaching, research and outreach capabilities with a USDA-inspected meat and poultry processing facility, as well as a separate Biosafety Level 2 processing and laboratory facility for food safety research. The building will also serve as home to Bucky’s Varsity Meats retail store, formerly known as Bucky’s Butchery.
The opening ceremony will be entirely virtual and broadcast Friday, November 6 at 12:00 pm CST. The program will include presentations by:
- Tony Evers, Wisconsin Governor
- Randy Romanski, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Secretary-designee
- Howard Marklein, Senator (District 17) and Chair of the Wisconsin Senate Committee on Agriculture, Revenue and Financial Institutions
